Wheaton Commitment Of KWMC 2012 Korean World Mission Conference
This is the Commitment of over 6,000 participants of the Kingdom Mission of the Seventh Korean World Mission Conference which took place on July 23-27, 2012 at Wheaton College, Illinois, USA.
Since 1988, we held the Korean World Mission Conference every 4 years at this historic Wheaton College campus.
Our Conference proceeded to five days from July 23 to 27 with the theme “Global Violence! Intensive Demand of Mission to the Ends of the Earth.”
This theme of the Conference was in response to the promise of Jesus Christ as “This Good news of the Kingdom will be proclaimed through all the world for a witness to all people; and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14)
What has compelled us to convene the Korean World Mission Conference in Wheaton College? It is because this place is a historic cradle of Christian education. Wheaton College has over 150 years of history since 1860, producing the most abundant numbers of missionaries among other Christian colleges and universities in the world, and it became the nurturing ground of education for the Kingdom mission.
What is persist us to become more great and powerful force of Mission? It is because of the prevailing satanic forces in the global village of the world today to lead all the human beings to perish.
Throughout the five days of the Conference from seven o’clock in the morning to ten o’clock late night, we had the different programs of Theme Lectures, Forums of Mission Strategies, Selected Workshops and Time for Recovering Spiritual Power and Rededication of Life. The speakers, lectures, and workshop leaders were over one hundred specialists on mission theory and practice. We believe that through this conference we have gained
the answers on how to overcome the global violence and intensive demand of Kingdom Mission to the ends of the earth. We proclaim our Commitment of Dedication to the love of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Great Commission of mission as following:
PRINCIPLES OF APOSTOLIC MISSION
The global village today is besieged by satanic forces. The hostile force to the Gospel and world mission is more powerful and boundless than ever before and it became more aggressive forces. Since the end of the twentieth century, the contemporary missions lost the Biblical foundation and have forsaken the principles of apostolic mission.
In this age of uncertainty, the Holy Spirit is compelling us to restore the apostolic principles of mission. What are the Biblical foundation and the Apostolic principles we should restore?
1. The Mission with Love to the Poors: The Apostolic mission was not to the rich peoples. As Jesus Christ did, apostolic mission spread the heavenly Gospel to the poor. Apostles visited the poor and loved them, fed them, cared for them and clothed them.
2. The Mission to the Feeble Peoples: The Apostolic mission was not to the healthy peoples. As Jesus practiced, apostolic mission was to the powerless, feebleness, disabled and the people in agony.
3. The Mission to the Suffering Peoples: As Jesus demonstrated, the apostolic mission was to liberate the suppressed and imprisoned peoples.
4. The Mission to the Wondering Strangers: As Jesus instructed, apostolic mission was to the homeless, wondering strangers and stateless diaspora.
5. The Mission to the Sinners: As Jesus said that “I have not come to call righteous people but sinners,” (Luke 5:32)the apostolic mission was to save the sinners.
6. The Eschatological Mission: As Jesus promised to come again, the apostolic mission was to witness the Second Coming of Christ.
7. The Mission of Martyrdom: All the apostles demonstrated the spirit of martyrdom. All of the apostles were martyred for witnesses of crucified and resurrected Jesus Christ to save all the sinners of the world.
OUR CONFESSION
We believe that the above seven apostolic principles are on the Biblical foundations which was based on the four Gospels and the Book of Acts of the apostles and the principles of the apostolic mission. Therefore, we swear again to return to these principles of apostolic mission from the misguided ways of missions.
We are confident that the mighty power of God takes charge of the history of mission. Nevertheless, we find that numerous mistakes and failures committed by mankind in the course of doing mission throughout its 2,000 years history. We find the mission history filled with errors and offenses that caused its degeneration due to the mission to conquer by the power of emperors compromising its secular powers with pagan religions. We
confess also that our iniquity in the 200 years of history of Protestant mission became associated with Western colonialism and its engagement to transplant Western civilization rather than to prioritize the propagation of the Gospel. And we confess the faults and offenses of contemporary mission that misguided us to lead the secularization movement by non-Biblical mission forces.
We confess that the reason of diminishing facts and the fall of Western churches is the sin of falling into temptation, therefore, casting aside the heavenly Gospel and seeking the physical pleasures and boundless greed to be wealthy.
We, the new mission forces of Korea, as the standard bearer of Christ and His Gospel, declare to break off from the faults of misguided mission history of the Western church.
CHALLENGE FOR WORLD EVANGELIZATION
We, Korean peoples, were stateless people in the past. Even today, we are living under the division of the land and the disruption of our nation.
God gave the strongest and powerful church in the world to this powerless feeble nation of ours. God made our Korean church as Bible loving church, endeavoring for evangelism and prayers, with an active dedication to missions movement, to reach out to the uttermost part of the world.
Our nation is now standing at the fore-front of Kingdom mission movement. We, nevertheless, got into haughtiness to proud our strong forces and abundance. We should not proud of our own power.
We are at beyond the age of de-westernization. We should throw away our haughtiness of wanting to accomplish missions by ourselves. We have to pursue the advocacy of the partnership and network of every forces of mission in the East, the West, the South and the North in our global village.
We recognized the conspiracy of Satan to the world through this Conference. And we acquired our confidence to overcome this satanic force through the power of the Holy Spirit and the authority of Jesus Christ.
We pledge to do pray without ceasing for all the Korean missionaries who are scattered in all the countries of the world to conquest the battle over the satanic force.
We pledge to dedicate our lives to propagate the heavenly Gospel to every nations through the mobilization of all our talents, knowledge and resources which were given to us from God, before the termination of this generation.
