We, team workers, do that in two ways. First of all, we maintain
an active program of ship visitation. This is the main task
of our pastoral counseling and medical outreach to seafarers.
Since I am a health professional and a pastor, I cure the sick
in physical and spiritual way on board and clinic. Second, we
maintain a Center where seafarers may gather and relax. The
seafarers Center is for them a ¡°home away from home¡±, a place
where for a few hours they may enjoy a change of environment.
We also offer them the chance to phone home, board and table
games, worship services, refreshments, and listening ear. And
in this environment, we look for opportunities to offer what
is most precious to us: the love of God and the good news of
salvation of Jesus Christ. Each year we have recorded approximately
15,000 seafarers visits to the Center. People have come to us
from over 80 different countries, speaking more than 50 languages,
and representing a wide variety of religious backgrounds. In
short, the Mission to Seafarers in Montreal is a place where
we have the opportunities to do ¡°World Mission at home¡±.
